Trapped in a Trailer
Jul. 20th, 2007 10:09 amThere are days where nothing much happens at work--the normal course of life marches on and melds smoothly into another day...
Then there are the days when you get locked in the client's trailer. Like yesterday. Our client is undergoing remodeling in their main offices, so they have these temporary classroom-trailer thingies. They're all set up like meeting rooms--conference tables, chairs, projectors, whiteboards and more.
We had our meeting as per normal. The one thing that sticks in my mind is the client asking us to close the door in the middle of the meeting, because somehow it had drifted open. Either it hadn't been shut all the way, or something was wrong with it. We, naturally, thought the former and NOT the latter as my boss got up diligently and slammed the door shut. We proceed with the meeting as per usual, only we have a late arrival and we try to get the door open so we can signal our location.
The door will not open. It's not locked. The handle turns...but it won't open. We lean, hit and cajole the door. The person meeting us cannot open the door from the outside. Of course, because there is valuable equipment in these classrooms, the doors are protected from the "credit card trick" and cannot be jimmied open.
We actually ended up opening a window, ripping out the screen and climbing out through the window. Security was called first, of course, and they couldn't get the door open either.
Eventually they called carpenters and such and completely disassembled the door. That kind of put a damper on the whole meeting, actually.
