Post-April First
Apr. 2nd, 2007 12:06 pmWe were pranked on April Fool's day (or should it be fools'...I think maybe it should since there are many).
Our trusty, new-fangled, fancy alarm clock decided to get in on the pranking action. It has a computer chip in it which is handy for many reasons: it automatically sets itself when you plug it in, it automatically resets after a power outage, and--supposedly--it automatically sets itself at the appropriate time for Daylight Savings. However, a few weeks back it didn't "spring ahead" and I manually set it forward an hour.
Apparently, it was just waiting for April Fools' Day. We woke up on Sunday morning particularly tired, but we decided that 10 was far too late to sleep in and got up in a moderate rush. We had things to do, how could we possibly sleep past 10?! I walked downstairs only to discover that it was, in fact, only 9.
I was robbed of an hour of sleep by an inanimate object. Fool.
In other news, I finished The Bright Forever and The Red Tent this weekend. The former I found mildly disappointing, the latter--surprisingly enjoyable (particularly considering that I wasn't expecting much, but it was well written, compelling, and because of its biblical nature it felt oddly familiar).
I have to finish the two Peter Pan sequels by Dave Barry this week. My co-worker lent them to me (not upon request) and although they're surprisingly enjoyable so far, I hate borrowing things from people I'm not very intimately acquainted with for more than a week or so.
I go through cycles of being a "book" person and being a "movie" person (not book vs. movie of the same material [book most always wins THAT for sure], just a "do I feel like watching a movie, or reading a book" kind of thing), and I've swung solidly back into the "book" phase. And all is again right with my world.
