Switching off
Oct. 29th, 2015 12:57 pmI went to a historical seance reenactment with a friend on Friday. He made a comment how it was a bummer that d and I couldn't go out much together without it being babysitting-expensive (he had invited d out, too).
It's true. People are going to start to think d doesn't exist anymore if he keeps staying home with the baby while I go out solo.
Then again, I've always been okay with us both doing our own stuff. It's nice to do stuff together, but it's also nice to have our own "things".

We were all in one room and volunteers wrote down a name and a question and put them in sealed envelopes. Then we all went into the seance room (with blackout curtains) and he went through the whole calling of the spirits and writing on slates and table-tapping/rapping and bells and such. Then the lights came up, there was a "raid" staged, and he answered questions about how he did the stuff (close-hand magic, slight of hand, pre-setting, distraction, etc.)
It was actually really cool, because the guy leading it was a great storyteller and had a great natural charm and rapport. He was also good at setting expectations and distracting. Some of the other re-enactors for the house were...more community-theater good than REALLY good.
