Pre-named

I think it's kind of weird to introduce your baby by name before it's born. I'm seeing it happen a lot lately. It's a trend!

There's nothing wrong with it...it just feels odd to me. Then again lots of people find out the sex of their baby before it's born and the name is the next step I suppose.

I also think it is weird. I m not sure if we will find out the sex for the next baby but we didn't decide on a name until almost the end.

Yeah. We had names pretty much sorted by the time we went into labor and all, but there was still some uncertainty and surprise. Even if the couple is pretty sure themselves, it's weird to announce it.

If I was to have a baby, I don't think I'd want to make a final decision on a name until after it was born. I'd have names in mind, but be ready for the possibility that the baby would come out and I'd have a different feeling about who it was after meeting it outside the womb.

Also, sometimes people will have a favorite name they really want to give their first son or daughter, and will name a fetus that and then miscarry it. And then that name will be forever associated with that and they won't want to use it again for another baby.

Yeah, one friend of mine named a fetus that she then miscarried, and that act of naming made her think of the miscarriage every time she thought about names in her second pregnancy. Not fun :(
