My wedding day is ruined.

My niece matter-o-factly informed me (several times) today that she was going to marry Derrick.

The 3 1/2 year old flower girl is going to run off with the groom. Oh, the intrigue! Oh the drama! Scandal!

I have to admit, she is a sight cuter than I--my chances are therefore nil.

I love the child's perception of marriage. To her, she can marry anyone that she "likes". Marriage is a task to be completed so she can be a "mommy". Yes, this is her heart's desire at 3 years of age--to be a mommy. She wanted to marry me for a bit (I jovially informed her that it wasn't yet legal in this state) and then she wanted to marry her daddy (and I informed her that it wasn't legal anywhere but Utah...and not really even there). Overall, however, she has her heart set on Derrick.

She did graciously inform me that I could be HER flower girl though.

Dang she's cute--and she never fails to humble, stun, enlighten, and delight me. I adore her. Everyone should have the pleasure of nieces :)
