Matzah was neutered yesterday. I picked him up after work and the vet told me to keep an eye on him that night; to make sure he wasn't licking himself too much (they didn't give us a collar or anything) and to make sure he was being responsive. We were supposed to keep him away from stairs and from jumping. The vet warned us that he might be rather lethargic and not have much appetite.

Ha. When we got home, he stumbled out of his crate like a drunken frat boy and then started begging for food. He remembered that it was downstairs. I refilled the bowl and he ate All The Things. Then he proceeded to pounce and wrestle with the other kitty for the rest of the night. Lethargy? No. He sprinted around like a wild thing.

Since being neutered, though, he's decided that the only way to drink water is from the floor. So he scoops it out of his dish until it starts to run in a trickle toward the basement drain...then he drinks it. He did not do this before. This, as one can imagine, is quite annoying to me.

I would say, "Why can't I ever have a NORMAL cat?" but I don't think there's such a thing as a normal cat.

My cats all bounced back pretty quickly. They never picked up a unique drinking method, though. It's kind of neat, in a messy way.

It just goes along with his general strangeness. He also (still) insists on standing in the food bowl while he eats.

Cats, man.

Consider yourself lucky. My cats odd behaviour includes peeing on the bed...randomly. :/

That is far less desirable.

I had a cat that peed on the bed randomly once. After several corrective measures were attempted, I eventually ended up surrendering the cat. I loved her, but I rank higher in the household.

Yeah. I couldn't get rid of her. I'm getting to the point that I'll be mentioning it to her vet and possibly closing the bedroom to her except when I'm sleeping.

That should say, "I once had a cat that peed on my bed randomly." She didn't do it just once. :)

I would definitely talk to the vet. That smell does not go away. I had to throw out my mattress. As a precautionary measure, our current cats are not allowed in any bedrooms (or upstairs at all).

I have a waterproof pad on it now. I also spray it with nature's miricle stuff. It helps.

I'm also going to switch around her litter to something else and see if that is the issue.

When you switch the litter, you might want to move the litter box location (not super-drastically). If she had a UTI or somesuch a while back and that has caused her to be averse to her litter box she'll continue to associate that spot with the pain (the type of litter could have also been an irritant).

I have like three or four litter boxes. I'm trying to keep them in the bedroom or bathroom.

Jojo, the other cat, has an issue where he poops places he isn't supposed to but he's always had that habit unless the box is 100% totally awesome and clean. Plus, he's older, so I've gotten more used to that one and it's much easier to clean up!
