D and I are a little bit bad wedding luck. We've been at remarkable number of weddings where rain has happened. But not just rain; oh-my-god-we're-all-going-to-drown rain. Two years ago, the wedding we were at was featured on the news; the cars in the parking lot of the hotel that everyone was staying at were *floating* and bumping into each other. We decided to leave about 30 minutes before the road home was totally washed out and shut down. D's cousin's wedding last year completely lost power at the reception.

This Friday we were at a wedding ON A FREAKIN' ISLAND in the middle of the Mississippi. The nice, solid, historical brick building started flooding. The roof started leaking onto the dance floor. The police officer (they're required on-premise at historical building events...we had to have one too) had his radio system go out. Everyone's cellphones started chirping for the override-your-silence-setting emergency alert. The staff at the building were freaking out because they'd never seen it start to flood. People were pretty much just looking out the windows as the rain whipped by saying a collective version of "holyfreakinshit".

Groom's initials? ARK. Shoulda known.

Fortunately the storm didn't last that long. Eventually they dried out the dance floor, squeege'd out the water, and the party proceeded...during which time I got to dance-dance-dance my little heart out. Also, there was free wine. Happy day!

AND! No hint of social anxiety. I'm unsure why, but in situations like these I usually don't experience a lot--or any--anxiety. It might be because it's a situation where I know my role and can sort of play a part. I am D's capital-W-wife and it's my job to socialize. Sort of like in business meetings--I don't get much--or any--social anxiety with clients either.
