11th Doctor
Nov. 8th, 2012 10:45 amYou know guys... I'm about 7 episodes in to his first season and I'm just not feeling Matt Smith as The Doctor on Doctor Who. His FIRST episode was great. He was kinda bad-ass and assertive in a way that David Tennant wasn't (well, except sometimes). But that didn't last long. Now he's just kinda... Well, the main thing is that he doesn't seem all that self-assured or particularly brilliant most of the time. He errs on the goofy side and you get the sense that he's sort of bumbling around.
I liked David Tennant's cocky-yet-good-natured (sometimes tortured) genius. I even liked Christopher Eccleston's super-intensity. But I haven't found that *thing* that really makes me like Matt Smith yet.
I'm willing to give it time. I could warm up to the goofy.
Amy Pond, on the other hand, is quite great as his companion. Competent and stubborn and smart-alecky. I haven't seen *enough* of Rory yet to judge his character.
Martha Jones was a totally underrated companion. I think she had the most potential--she was smart in her own right (doctor!) and accomplished and quick--up until they somehow decided that it would be great for her character to make her central story arc falling in love with The Doctor in a one-sided way. That sort of ruined it. I liked her better than Rose or even Donna, though. Amy might win out as my favorite yet. We shall see.
We shall see, indeed.
