State of Running
Mar. 23rd, 2011 05:48 pmSoon it will be time for outdoor running.
I mean, it could be time for outdoor running right now, but I refuse to purchase pants. Also, I like to be comfortable when I run. I don't mind the mud and wet (love that), but I dislike the cold. Also, I need enough daylight after work, and it's a bit scarce right now.
Right now the running--in general--is sucking for some unknown reason. My body is one big protest chorus of "I don't wanna".
It could be that my treadmill has started to give me random shocks. That's right. My treadmill is trying to get my lazy ass to move faster. Through shock treatment. This is not proper exercise feedback and reinforcement. Running=Shocks. NotRunning=NoShocks.
It only very occasionally zaps me hard enough to restart the computer. D lubed up the machine in an effort to reduce the static electricity (which is the cause--not some kind of electrical short), but it really just makes it a better conductor. Zap. Run run run. Zap.

Date: 2011-03-25 04:39 pm (UTC)The first sign I'm going to get another shock is that my bangs start sticking up all static-like. So I'm not sure how to make me less static-y unless we just add more humidity to the air...

Date: 2011-03-25 04:40 pm (UTC)In the spring it's always hard for me to jump out into the cold. In the fall, however, I hate ending my outdoor runs and will be wearing shorts (and a sweatshirt) long into November if the daylight cooperates.

Date: 2011-03-25 04:57 pm (UTC)You know how there's always the same people at every health club in the universe? The overly muscled douche slamming down the weights, that middle-aged frumpy frau that imagines every man is staring at her and that extra-sweaty guy flapping around in his own personal Great Salt Lake? Well, I'm that Sweaty Guy. Pleased to meet you.
Anyway, the longer I run in hot weather, the more sweat collects in my shoes and the less effective any cushioning becomes. I'll probably do it anyway, because it's apparently so much more effective than working out on a treadmill...but it doesn't mean I'll like it!
