Books I have read.
Jan. 2nd, 2011 02:08 pmI don't usually keep track of books that I read in a year (heck, this list starts in Feb/March, so I'm missing a month of good, solid reading [like some Camus, etc.] --since January is usually very book-heavy). This year, however, I decided to do mini-reviews for each. Therefore, I have a record of what I've read. Not all of it is high art, but there's some interesting stuff in there this year.
From most recent to least recent:
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest -- Steig Larsson (Book 3 of 3)-- 3/5 stars
Isis -- Daniel Clegg -- 3/5 stars
The Kite Runner -- Khaled Husseini -- 2.5/5 stars
East of Eden -- John Steinbeck -- 4.5/5 stars
Sex at Dawn: The Prehistoric Origins of Modern Sexuality -- Ryan & Jetha -- 4.5/5 stars
A Wrinkle in Time -- Madeleine L'Engle (REREAD) -- 4/5 stars
One Hundred Years of Solitude -- Gabriel Garcia Marquez -- 5/5 stars
The Way of Chang Tzu -- Thomas Merton -- 3.5/5 stars
The Devil in the White City -- Erik Larson -- 3/5 stars
The Baseball Codes -- Jason Turbow -- 3.5/5 stars
Loving Frank -- Nancy Horan -- 3/5 stars
The Girl Who Played with Fire -- Steig Larsson (Book 2 of 3)-- 3/5 stars
Dead in the Family -- Charlaine Harris (Book 10 of ongoing series) -- 2/5 stars
Howard's End -- E.M. Forester -- 5/5 stars
Low Life: Lures and Snares of Old New York -- Luc Sante -- 4/5 stars
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo -- Steig Larsson (Book 1 of 3) -- 3/5 stars
Push: A Novel -- Sapphire -- 4/5 stars
Brain Rules -- John Medina -- 3.5/5 stars
Atonement -- Ian McEwan -- 2.5/5 stars
The Secret Lives of Men and Women -- Postsecret -- 3.5/5
Peace Like a River -- Leif Enger -- 3.5/5
Dead and Gone -- Charlaine Harris (Book 9 of ongoing series) -- 2.5/5 stars
All Together Dead -- Charlaine Harris (Book 7 of ongoing series) -- 2.5/5 stars
Definitely Dead -- Charlaine Harris (Book 6 of ongoing series) -- 3/5 stars
Dead as a Doornail -- Charlaine Harris (Book 5 of ongoing series) -- 2.5/5 stars
Dead to the World -- Charlaine Harris (Book 4 of ongoing series) -- 2.5/5 stars
Club Dead -- Charlaine Harris (Book 3 of ongoing series) -- 3/5 stars
Living Dead in Dallas -- Charlaine Harris (Book 2 of ongoing series) -- 3/5 stars
Dead Until Dark -- Charlaine Harris (Book 1 of ongoing series) -- 3.5/5 stars
The Pillars of the Earth -- Ken Follett -- 4/5 stars
The Story of Edgar Sawtelle -- David Wroblewski -- 3.5/5 stars
Middlesex -- Jeffrey Eugenides -- 3.5/5 stars
Their Eyes Were Watching God -- Zora Neale Hurston -- 4.5/5 stars
Master and Commander -- Patrick O'Brian -- 4/5 stars
Darkly Dreaming Dexter -- Jeff Lindsay -- 2.5/5 stars
The White Tiger -- Aravind Adiga -- 2.5/5 stars
The City & The City -- China Mieville -- 2/5 stars
The Charlaine Harris... Well, I have no explanation for that. Clearly, I didn't think they were great books, but I just kept reading. They were addictive. And I find it near-impossible to start a series and not finish it. Hence why Robert Jordan will not be started. (Wheel of time. . . epic fantasy...and he died before finishing the series. Torture.)
According to my list, I'm missing three that I'd marked read. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to access the complete list all at once and some titles keep evading me.

Date: 2011-01-03 01:04 am (UTC)I want to read White Tiger, the Stieg Larson's (which I have all three on my Nook), and I've been poking Atonement with a stick for the past six years now. You read excellent books last year. I am keenly jealous.
