On Carrot Cake

Yesterday, my sister brought me homemade carrot cake cupcakes with equally ambitious homemade cream cheese frosting.

I love her.

I hate carrot cake. Except for hers.

So a little under a year ago, my birthday was coming up. My sister wanted to make me a cake. I was out of town. She asked my darling husband what she should make:

"Carrot Cake, I think. Or Angel Food Cake."

And so she made me carrot cake. I came home and was presented with this lovely thing.

"Oh." says I. Confused. "Well, that's very nice, but I don't really *like* carrot cake."

"Um," says my sister, "Derrick implied that it was your favorite."

"No. It's Derrick's favorite."

So. Totally. Busted.

But, as it turns out, I really like my sister's carrot cake. She, however, has lost significant trust in my husband's honesty about what I like and don't like. What a lovable little weasel he is.

Not, of course, that marmots are Mustilids. Or, for that matter, even Carnivorae.

If you were looking for a really sneaky rodent (and didn't want the negative connotations of a rat), I'd suggest one of the packrats, like Neotoma albigula.

...wait, if that joke was a really indirect ferret-from-Big-Lebowski reference and it totally went over my head, never mind. Because then it's hilarious.

I'll have to think about it. I can't immediately recall what cakes I like. Perhaps it would help if I were hungrier.
