The Painted Lady
Nov. 12th, 2007 12:41 pmThis weekend the living room, dining room, and upstairs hallway were all painted by me. Derrick helped out a bit the day he was home (in his defense, he asked to go to his friends' thingie, THEN I decided I wanted to paint--so he wasn't skipping out). It's funny. When you paint by yourself for a day, having someone paint with you suddenly seems like magic. Spend an hour painting--get twice as much done!
The results:
• The living room and upstairs hallway is "almond toast"--a light tannish, the dining room and wall leading up the stairs is "copper mountain" a beautiful orangish-brown.
• Ralph Lauren, you have failed me. We went to get paint, and RL was $36.99 a gallon. Okay, it was expensive, but we can splurge, right? I mean, the faux-suede is soooo purdy. We're only going to do this once (justify, justify, justify). Okay, let's see how many gallons we need... Hmm...considering that the RL paint covers a THIRD of what the other paint covers...we'll need 12 gallons. Wait, what? I fell out of love with RL paint right then. ~$500 to add a fresh coat of paint? No, that's not a splurge, that's INSANITY.
• So we went with matte paint (no texture). It's lovely.
• We just slapped primer on the wall instead of sanding then priming. I hate primer.
• I hate taping. I suck at it. I hate it. I forgot how much I hate it. I know it's necessary, but ugh. Oh boy, there's hate to go around here.
All in all, I'm extremely pleased with the work. I'm sore now. Very, very sore. I could use a hot bath and a massage. Also, my right hand needs to be unbruised, like, right now.
