Self-centeredness
Nov. 3rd, 2007 01:27 amCan I just say, there's nothing better than running into someone from your past while you look amazing? I mean really, most of the time when I run into someone I haven't seen in a while I'm doing the t-shirt-jeans-sneakers thing at work and I haven't bothered to brush my hair since that morning. They ask me what I've been up to, I tell them I work downtown as a corporate-type writer and the skepticism is palpable. Uh huh...sure. People that really work downtown don't look like clean-ish hobos. Unless by "work" you mean "panhandling" and by "writer" you mean "person who makes the 'homeless, please help' signs for everyone else".
But today I ran into two girls from high school. I was dressed to the nines (or tens, because really...there was a client meeting today), in my freaking suit for gosh sakes. I had freshly-cut hair that I had brushed and styled. I had makeup that was properly (and recently) touched up. It felt freaking cool to actually project the image/illusion of success.
Yeah, that's pretty self-centered. Extremely conceited. But it made me feel good anyway.
*Sigh* Now back to worrying about world peace, global warming, genocide, hunger, and things that aren't all about me.
