Seriously.

My boss sent our shiny new intern out today to wait in line for him...so he could get the new iPhone.

Seriously.

I don't. Understand.

Then again, my cellphone is still in the sack I used going out of town two weeks ago. It's probably uncharged and lonely.

I don't miss it.

I am, most obviously, NOT their target market. I mean, I love my Mac laptop and all, but I just don't have the loyalty, nor the need for that phone. That, and I find their pretentious Mac vs. PC commercials annoying. Mostly because John Hodgeman is more endearing to me than that other guy...and they've gone from, "We all love each other but we're used for different things" to "Mac is SOOOO much better than PC in SOOOO many ways." It can be true and still be annoying.

But really. He sent out an intern. The Devil Uses an iPhone, anyone?

I wonder if, while the intern was standing in line, they pulled out their own plain, garden-variety cell phone to call their friends and say, "You will not BELIEVE what I am being made to do right now." Talk about taking advantage. I guess I'm not meant to be in a position of such power that I could actually MAKE someone else do my own pretentious stuff for me, because I just don't think I could stand it.

I also am not one to want new shiny things like that phone the second it comes off the line, because there will be bugs to work out, there always are, and I'd just as soon let other people experience and report them to be fixed.

I think this new iPhone will just be the next thing to cause people to stop paying attention to the world around them, like Blackberries. The countdown is on to the first car accident that is caused by someone fooling with their iPhone and drifting into another lane!

Of all people who should not be allowed to have an iPhone for the very reason above (the car accidents) my boss is #1. He's a horrid, horrid driver to begin with, and yet he just can't stay off the phone while driving.

Yeah, I think he's abusing his power a bit much there. I don't think I could deal with telling someone to go stand in line for 8 hours or more because I WANT this thing that costs way too much money and I don't need. Since the intern is paid by the company, it literally means he's wasting the company's money to do this. Then again, since he's the sole owner of the company, he's really just wasting his own money. Again, not a surprising trait for said boss.

It just makes me sad. Then again, I'm not on the cell phone bandwagon to begin with, so maybe I just don't get it.
