Having officially completed all wedding thank-you notes for things that have arrived (we have been told that more things are in the mail, on the way, and being brought in), we can actually start de-packaging and using the stuff. My rule was: no using stuff until a thank-you had been written and sent. This keeps me on the ball. Some of the days' lessons/observations:
1. There are some things that will be perfect "white elephant" Christmas gifts. I'm talking to you rose-painted clock with gold plastic accents. Actually, there's just that one thing. We can't figure out where the heck it came from, so there is no returning it.
2. While I appreciate that my things won't break, consumer packaging is really extremely wasteful. How is it possible that unpacking 4 items can COVER the living room in styrofoam and plastic and cardboard debris?
3. Flannel sheets are extremely nice. MUCH nicer than I remember them being when I got a set for Christmas as a kid. They're so cozy and warm and comfy and snuggly and....
....zzzz....
zz..pft...
Yup. That's about it.
