On the flight to Phoenix I sat next to two legit Trump supporters. I never would have guessed. They looked just like normal people. You know, only older and white.

They were parroting the talking points. Trump has created millions of jobs and Obama said you didn't build anything yourself! Hillary compromises national security with BENGHAZI! They don't know how women can vote for her (one was a woman, but older) the way she talked about her husband's mistresses!

Fuck, you guys. Talk me down. Someone convince me through stats or otherwise that it's not actually possible that Trump is going to win this thing. I keep finding pockets of unassuming Trump voters who, when confronted with their own, open their mouths and let the racism just fall out (these two were talking about the large Somali population in MN and how that was SO FUCKING HORRIBLE THEY SHOULD GO BACK TO SOMALIA THOSE TERRORISTS!). I kid you not. It was like a parody of Trump people...coming from normal people. It was horrifying.

TALK ME DOWN. GIVE ME STATS.

I have been just as discouraged but this is what some friends and colleagues shared: http://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/clinton-trump-battleground-polls-229064

She leads in electoral college forecasts.

I am still scared.

I'm scared too, though the article is nice and reassuring.

In a way I wonder if it's going to be like the last election...where the stats were steady all along for an Obama win, but media outlets got on this crazy tangent about Romney taking everything and it became this weird undercurrent--so when Obama won again people were surprised, but they shouldn't have been, because that's what the numbers were saying all along.

I really do hope so...

And yet, no matter who wins we are still left with angry people who would either have gained a leader to think they can say whatever and do whatever crap to others or lost the leader and are looking to take out that anger somewhere/somehow.

The NY Times home page has an election forecast that they update every day. Clinton's chance has been increasing each day.

Nate Silver has increased her chances to 70-something percent in recent days. Way better than the even 50-50 that was going on for a while there--though the VP Candidate debates have yet to have any impact measured.

Stats are meaningless.

We gotta drag every human being that can vote AND see past their own fucking nose out to the polls on Election Day. Even Warren Buffett said he was gonna.

But they comfort me like a warm blanket! Nate Silver wouldn't lie to me. He wouldn't!

I do agree with you, however. I didn't speak up on the plane because the people were batshit and I was trapped, but I've been speaking up like crazy with "I don't think I'll vote"-ers who would normally go blue.
