I realize that I haven't been posting a lot about the (many) books I've been reading lately. I haven't even been keeping up with my 50 book challenge postings, although--rest assured--I'll make it beyond 50 books in a year. I realize that, while it's intrinsically fascinating for ME to read about books, it may be far less so for others. *shrug* Ah well, books are a big part of my life...and they always will be. For a half-a-second I toyed around with the idea of getting married in a library--just so he would know that he's marrying me AND my books (we're a package deal...luckily Derrick is also a "reader" [picky though he may be]).

I just got done reading Preludes and Nocturnes (Volume One of the Sandman "Graphic Novels"), by Neil Gaiman.

I have to say, I was really reluctant to pick this up. I'm not a comic book fan (actually, come to think of it, the only comic book I've really read was a hefty illustrated picture bible--done in comic frame form. And people wonder why I have near-encyclopedic knowledge of Bible stories; that book was awesome). Anyway, I'm also not a super-fan of Neil Gaiman. I mean, I like his stuff, but overall I think his writing tends to be a lot simpler than his imagination--and therefore much of the story remains in his head (but you can see it peeking out from the word-framework he sets up...making it a tad frustrating). Come to think of it I'm not really a super-fan of any one author. I don't get super-fandom. Authors are always going to have stronger stories than others, and I'm not going to like something weak based on non-associated material. Huh.

ANYWAY, I rather enjoyed the book/graphic novel (yeah, Derrick laughed at me for reading a "comic book"). Next: Alan Moore.

I didn't make it through Plague Dogs. When I can't make it through a book on a plane (where I'm trapped and really have nothing better to do) I know it's tedious. Actually, I've NEVER not made it through a book before. Something about Adams' need to describe the surrounding hillside and conceptual freedom in agonizing detail really flipped the off switch in my reading brain. I feel bad for returning the book without finishing it, but I just can't see myself picking it up again.

And now for something completely different (sorry I'm so terribly random tonight...I blame it on the headache):

The rest of the wedding invites went out with a few exceptions--people we don't have addresses for. IRISH and BUFFY--please send me your address via my work email. Yes, I know I had it at one point...no, I don't know where I can find it...yes, this makes me a bad person.

We also got two...TWO response cards back already. I don't know why this makes me excited and nervous, but it does.

I also figured out that people love to host bridal showers. Derrick's family, my family, my mom's church, and my work are all wanting to throw showers. Ugh. This means socialization. I'm TOTALLY making Derrick come to them all. He's the people-person of the couple.

And that concludes today's completely, terribly random, not-so-terribly interesting blog.
