Rattling out loud

Caution: Wedding Stuff Ahead.
I hate brides. Other brides. I hate them because they're organized and chipper and perky and have great ideas all the time about cute little things to add to their wedding. They also have the energy and motivation to accomplish such things. I can't even go to a website to get IDEAS without feeling woefully inadequate. Somehow, I think I wouldn't be feeling this way about the wedding if I weren't already feeling this way about life in general. But anyway.
Done (mostly):
--The BIG dress (although I haven't heard about it since I ordered it...and I still have alterations--blah)
--Caterer
--Cake picked out (I have a meeting with Muddy Paws Cheesecakes tonight)
--Bridesmaid dresses (although who knows how far along these are *bites lip*)
--Officiant (date is saved, though unconfirmed)
--Location
--DJ (although I need to turn in the "event planner" yet)
--Photogs (although I need to schedule their "engagement" session)
--Invites ordered (although they haven't arrived yet)
NOT done:
--Accessories (shoes, jewelry, etc.)
--Figuring out hair & makeup & crap for me and bridesmaids
--Flowers
--Bar
--Decorations
--Favors
--Addressing/sending invites (OMG, next week is SEPTEMBER...and I haven't quite gotten them yet)
--Groom's and groomsmans' tuxes
--Flowergirl dress
--Honeymoon
--Wedding Bands
--Wedding night hotel
--And more!
Argh. So far my biggest frustration is with my parents. We've ended up paying for everything (save the caterer downpayment and DJ downpayment) because it's so much easier than explaining to my parents that yes, things actually DO cost that much in 2006, and NO, I'm not picking expensive things. That, and I'd really rather just pay for things myself. For example, my mom just can't get over the fact that catering for 250 people would be $3000. Actually, as far as weddings go, this is quite the bargain (aside from serving Subway and/or pizza). Last night she said we should check out "reasonably priced" hotels in the area (downtown). I asked her what she thought "reasonably priced" was. Her response? $40 a night. I think she may have been slightly miffed when I said that for $40 a night people shouldn't be sleeping underneath the covers. *shudder*
On top of this, my mother asks me last night: "When do you want your bridal shower for the church [that I grew up in]?"
"For what? Mom, do you realize that I'm not getting married in the church?"
"Well yes...that's okay"
"And you do realize that no one from the church is invited to the wedding?"
"Well yes..."
"And you realize that it's tacky to have a bridal shower and include people that you're not inviting--nor have room to invite--to the wedding?"
"Oh, but they won't want to come to the wedding--they just want to have a shower for you."
"Who?"
"All the ladies at church!"
*growling* "Who TOLD them that I was getting married?" (These, mind you, are the "ladies" that made church rather unbearable for anyone who wasn't their own child.)
*sheepishly* "Well, I did."
"Thanks mom."
Awww crap.
Okay, I officially started this entry YESTERDAY. It goes without saying that yesterday ended up being rather busy.

Date: 2006-08-29 03:05 pm (UTC)Actually, all the REALLY big things are done and secure...now it's just the million little "fun" things.
Except the bridesmaids. They still might be going down the aisle in correctly-colored togas. *shrug*
