Derrick won't let me consider the name Noam (for Noam Chomsky) or Tiberius (James T. Kirk) or Levin (for the most interesting character in Anna Karenina) or Karenin (the puppy in The Unbearable Lightness of Being) or Milan (Milan Kundera)*.

I have PPP. Pretentious people problems.

*Am not actually considering these names. ;)

I think little Ibsen would enjoy any pretentious name you give him...

IBSEN!!!

I'll run it by D. Somehow I don't think it will go over well.

ETA: Funny enough, Henrik was legitimately in the running b/c it's a family name.

Do Scandinavians do patronyms?

Sure, why not? We can start the new American Scandinavian tradition.

Never been so happy to see that asterisk. I have friends who named their son Tiberius. They call him The Captain. It really ooks me out.

Yeah... I like ST and all, but there's no saddling a little kid with a name like that.

I was looking through our name list and I think our second (eventual) kid will have to have like six names because our list is so good.

Too bad the boy name is locked because I actually do love the name Virgil.

I was actually thinking about the boy names. There are like five or six there I'd be happy with. The girl ones are so much harder.

It was/is sort of the opposite for us. We have quite a few girls' names we like vs. boys names (which seem to be a lot more limited in scope if you don't want to get weird).

I think we have a boy and a girl name locked (with alternates), but I'm constantly second-guessing right now. I wish I had something I love-love-loved.

I didn't love-love Henrietta but I do now.

This is super-good to know. I'm just second-guessing All The Things right now.

I asked Jason if we could add 'Milan' to our baby name list because of a hockey player! I like it, but he said no. Shucks.

Just watched 'Blended' the other night - one of Adam Sandler's kids is named Espn after his favorite TV channel. :)

Mikko was actually considered for a VERY short period of time (for the hockey player) but Derrick vetoed it pretty quickly.

D sees all the beneficiaries for people's investments at his office. There are a pair of freshly-born twins named Espyn and Aspyn.

Oh, Mikko Koivu! He is one of my faves because of yarn brand called 'Koigu'.

I'm sad for those twins.

I have a hard time with names -- Kate and I spent a lot of time throwing ridiculous ideas at each other. It was horrifying. The names we would up with were fairly mainstream. Well, Eddy's (Edwin), not so much, but I'd be damned if I was going to end up with a Bryson or Grayson or Logan or whatever fucking weird variant of a comic book name the Gen Y'ers are naming their kids these days.

Edwin is a nice balance of classic and unique.

My problem with boy names is that I like things like...William. Which are SUPER popular so I eliminate them by default.

I'm pretty sure you meant Logan as Lohgynn. ;) (Seriously, there are SO MANY AWFUL NAMES right now.)
