Home decor

I don't know if it's nesting or what, but I've reached "critical mass" overload on a few hated home decor pieces. They must go. I can't look at them any longer.

First, the awful lamp:

Which is so hideous that I feel self-conscious about it whenever we have guests. IT DOES NOT REFLECT MY TASTES, okay? It was free with the basement couches as a "set" and we couldn't pick any different lamp. It is functional so we've been using it.

Second, the clock in the bathroom. It's one of those cheap plastic Target clocks that just sort of sits on the window ledge and has a few melted spots on the face where I accidentally hit it with wood stripper... The last time I used wood stripper was, oh, maybe 2005. The hideous stenciled border on the wood trim in the bathroom was one of the first things to go.

So I've been looking for cool replacements. This is hard, because good lamps are difficult to find (and almost no decor stores have anything besides the basic clocks). I've been obsessively browsing allmodern.com and there's a lot of stuff there. I've already struck out at IKEA, Cost Plus World Market, Pier 1 Imports, Target...

It's a process. Something will come along that strikes my fancy and then I will NEVER LOOK AT THAT LAMP AGAIN.

ETA: I kind of like this lamp? I'm not sure.

If only I was closer I would totally be willing to take that lamp so you would never have to see it again (unless I have a video tour of my home).

(My current lamp is a stained glass one my mom made)

Etsy may have some nice clocks, maybe? I do have a nice (and fairly inexpensive) battery operated old-fashioned bell alarm clock I got from Target a few years ago. It sometimes is the ONLY thing that will wake me up, but would probably look nice as a bathroom clock as well.

But it's SO UGLY! :)

I understand about upgrading from things you don't like to things that are better than what you don't like but maybe that you don't *love-love*. Plus it's personal taste. I'm sick of looking at it.

I should try etsy. I hadn't thought of that.

If you were closer and my mom was still doing stained glass at her store, I'd suggest checking with her and she'd probably be able to have made you one. (if stained glass is your style.)

I think that lamp has a bit of character. I kinda like the stand! Though almost all of my furnature in the main room in my house are hand-me-downs from my parents and grandparents (though a few are antiques) and some Sauder bookcases (because you can never have enough bookcases!)

I have a lamp that I used in law school (it is a floor lamp with a little bit of a table around it) that I just haven't used since I moved in to my new place. It doesn't go with anything, but I keep thinking I should use it somewhere It was like $10 at a neighbor's yard sale.

I've developed a new adult furniture philosophy: If I don't love it, let it go and get something that I do love. Because life is too short.

I think the picture is failing to convey how truly ugly the lamp is, here. . . ;)
