Name Game

We haven't really narrowed down our largish list of names yet.

Everyone asked us this weekend if we had thought of names yet. I responded that I hadn't really thought about it. I mean, except having a spreadsheet with trend regression and popularity for 2013 and the year and rank when each name was most popular, that is.

Aside from that, though. Nada. And I don't consider that "thinking about it". I consider it merely collecting data.

Everyone thinks it's going to be a boy. I have no reason to believe this is true or not--but not one single person has guessed "girl".

We'll see in time, I suppose. I may be moderately surprised if it IS a girl at this point, simply because of the continual reinforcement of "boy". It doesn't really matter one way or the other, though.

I wonder if I would feel more attached to the baby if I knew.

Probably not.

Totally a boy. But your child will be adorable and you will be so loving of the little spud even if she were a girl. But it's a boy.

I can't wait for the first post-natal photos of little Atticus Brody Covington.

*hugs*

I would totally name my kid Atticus if I didn't think it was a shade hipstery/pretentious. ;)

Don't use Brodie, either. HA!

My friends' son is Henry Atticus Thoms. Her favourite father, his favourite King, and it spells H-A-T

I don't like a lot of these modern names.

How about Abimelech? "Otho" never got a fair shake.

What about a Scandinavian name like Anders?

D likes Anders a lot, but it's sort of spoiled for me by a kid I grew up with who was Not Nice.

D also likes Henrik. I like Sven, but it's part of, well...a Sven and Ole joke. I had a classmate named Sten (pronounced Stee-in in Swedish and meaning "Stone"), but no one would ever say it right.

There's always Bjorn. ;)

Or some good Russian names. Nikolai or Levin.

Or Goddard. We'd call him God for short. Then he could be God Something Covington Damm. Or God Damm.

I was convinced that Henrietta was going to be a boy. So, it is a good thing we had more than one name.

Our list was pretty up in the air until the end. Just have one before you leave the hospital. My neighbors didn't have a name until their baby was a month old.

We have some solid choices... I'm just not falling in love with anything like I think I should be. People say to wait and see what the baby looks like, but most newborns look sort of Gollum-ish. ;)

I was my parents' third child and I was still "Baby Berg" for about a week after I was born. My mom said she didn't want to decide what any of our names would be until after she "met" us.

Also, my sister didn't find out the gender of her kid during pregnancy, but she got the "it's a boy" comment quite a lot, too. I was in the delivery room taking photos (for her) during her labor, and the photo she cropped to share with others was a close up of her jaw-dropped, shocked face when Hannie arrived and the doctor said "it's a girl!" Priceless. Her face was like that for at least a solid minute. That was a pretty fun moment: finding out. :)

I got "it's a boy" from a cashier at Target today. Sheesh. I totally want to have a camera ready in case it's a girl. At this point I'll be shocked.

My sister was "Baby Covington" for a little bit. Mostly because the names they wanted to give her...my grandmother really strongly objected to and they had to quickly find another.

You could set off a whole new wave of hipsterism by naming him/her 'Yolk.'

He/she would be born with a super-trendy little beard if I did that...
