Speaking of pointlessness.

I'm all caught up on Mad Men.

I went back and started to re-watch the first season.

Wow. That's not a show you can really do that with. Because all the struggles of the first few seasons become incredibly pointless.

People do all these shitty things to avoid Big Things. At the time it seems very important and necessary. But then as the show progresses, the Big Things come anyway (as they do...secrets cannot last forever). It's horrible for a while, and immediately painful, but people recover and it's fine (as they do...humans are remarkably resilient).

So all that worry and damage never needed to happen.

Of course, that's not how life works. You can't just skip to the damage already being done and get past the Big Things. You have to go through them.

But it's a TV show. So. POINTLESS.

During that last episode...

Bertine: Just so you know, that's never happening.
Me: Okay.

Fin.

She's not cutting off her nipple and putting it in a box for you!?! C'mon!

We watched it right after game of thrones (...thanks to the magic of pirating) and so for a minute I was really confused about which show I was watching. That nipple thing was really kind of unnecessary.

Mad Men has to have its occasional "lawnmower" moments. It's not as bad as GOT stuff (HBO's CEO of Tits: "More tits! More blood! More tits with blood!") but they like to do the sensational thing every now and then.

I'm rather glad it was HIS nipple and not someone else's nipple, frankly.

haha! I had just started rewatching the show as well and I'm kinda thinking the same thing.

Though I'm also trying to figure out if I like Betty or if she's a character I totally cannot stand.

I've never been a Betty fan. Re-watching the first season makes me think that no one would ever actually say the things she says.

Betty sometimes reminds me of people I know.

When I restarted it I was like "oh, Pete was a big asshole in the beginning! I forgot about that!" and about Sal. I miss Sal.

Sal! I miss Sal too.

Pete was an asshole, Ken Cosgrove was an asshole...they were all assholes and Peggy was so tiny and mousey looking!

What I miss most is Epically Fabulous Joan. And Joan and Roger together. I liked them as a (secret) couple.

I do like Joan. I like Roger as well, despite him sometimes being an ass. Secretly I kinda really like Alison Brie (the actress who plays Pete's wife) since I have a slight crush on her. haha!

I'm not sure how to feel about Peggy. There are times I like her and then times I don't understand why she seems to be an ass to people.
