Deflection

So many deadlines. So many deflections.

Me, to boss: Did you look at the script? I've asked, cajoled and now I'm at the point of nagging. You're the holdup here.
Boss: I brought you grapes!
Me: Okay, that's nice. But the script, though?
Boss: I'll do it right now. 
...
Boss: Here is the script. I only made it a quarter of the way through. You look nice today. 
Me: Okay. When are you going to review the whole thing?
Boss: I brought in donuts, they're downstairs!

Idea Amnesia

I'm used to people co-opting my ideas as their own. Really used to it. So used to it, in fact, that sometimes *I* even forget it was my idea.

Client: And when we play the game, [incredibly clever game name]...
Me, to boss later: That game name is really clever. I like it!
Boss: It's good, isn't it.
Me: For once they came up with something I don't hate.
Boss: We get it. You like your idea. 
Me: That was *my* idea?
Boss: Yeah, it was in the first draft of the script.
Me: [goes and looks at script, finds game name truly tossed out "Character announces game, perhaps [game name]?"]

Huh. Lo and behold. I guess I did come up with it. But I forgot.
