I like small rodents, generally. Rats, mice, etc. I know we have mice in our garage and it doesn't bug me too much. The neighbor's cat likes to go in there and clean up the problem for us. I've had pet mice (Elmer and Fudd) and a rat (Lily) before. (Note: I approve of pet rodents in my house...I do not approve of wild rodents in my house.)
So I'm certainly not afraid of mice/rats/etc.
But it is amazing how insanely, primally terrifying it is to hear scratching in the wall* behind you late at night and know that something living is doing that out of your sight and behind you. That live, ambiguous scratching when you think you're alone is spooky as hell.
No seriously. I'm sitting here. It's happening. It stops when I stand up but they don't seem to mind the noise of me typing or playing youtube clips. It's freaky and I DON'T EVEN MIND RODENTS.
So it's time to set traps and/or let our cats out into the main level to see if their lazy, obese selves have some ancient, engrained ancestral memory of how to hunt. Mice as pets=fine. Mice outside=fine. Wild mice in my house=not fine at all. Dangerous (old house, old wiring, lots to chew...).
This is also completely distracting. Horror!
*It's probably not inside the wall. It's probably just tucked under/beside the radiator boxes. A quick visual inspection turned up no mouse and no droppings, though. Curious.
