The Bachmann Effect
Aug. 28th, 2011 01:44 amMichele Bachmann has been able to do something that no politician, election, political or historical event has been able to do: make my mother vocal about politics.
This is a women who, when my siblings and I asked her who she voted for and if my parents were Democrats or Republicans or other said, "That is private."
This is a woman who had a basement put underneath the house instead of a honeymoon. Who has lived in a constant state of clutter and disrepair for 35 years. Who has not--until the last 2 years--had a washer, dryer or dishwasher in her house. (Um, installed.) All this without a complaint or a peep of discontent.
This woman is a quiet, Christian, Scandinavian, we-don't-make-a-fuss woman.
And yet Michele Bachmann... oh... if you want to hear my mom get *mad*--and I mean really worked up mad-- just bring HER up.
It's absolutely amazing. And really kind of funny. Like watching Ms.MarySunshine get worked up over something. She manages to be adorable when she's ranting.
