It's a miracle!
Apr. 9th, 2010 05:06 pmHoly crap, I can see!
I mean, things are still a little fuzzy around the edges, but I barely notice that. What I notice is that for the first time since I was in 2nd grade (or earlier) I can look around and see things without glasses or contacts.
I envy those who come by good sight naturally, but I didn't, sadly.
I will say this about Lasik, though:
• It was super-short and that was kind of jarring. Like...oh, are we ready to go already? Wait, give me time to mentally prepare for this! But no. 1-2-3 done.
• The sensation of cutting into your cornea is not pleasant. It's not painful (the eye is numbed) but the sound combined with the pressure on your eye and the fact that the lights dim and you want to blink and look away but can't is straight out of some horror film.
• The smell of the laser burning your eye is also unpleasant. Though that, too, does not hurt before or after.
• It's amazing how fast your eye heals.
• It's crazy that I'm seeing close to 20/20 now with further improvement expected over the next couple days/weeks, and they weren't EVER able to correct that well with glasses/contacts for me.
Overall, it's not a pleasant process, but it's a surprisingly short one. My biggest problems will be with keeping stuff (water, sweat, etc.) out of my eyes.
And I haven't NOT worn eye makeup since I was 16. Now I'm a week without it. It's no big deal, but blonde hair=blonde lashes which makes me look a little like some oddly eyelashless being..
And the sleeping goggles are wicked-cool. Even if I can see the impressions on my face for hours afterward. It's sci-fi, y'all.
