I know I shouldn't be surprised--it's a classic--but I'm remarkably pleased with how much I'm enjoying "Stranger in a Strange Land". I hadn't read it before, and automatically assumed it would be one of those overrated things. Something that everyone talks about reading, but no one actually does--or that everyone reads, but no one actually enjoys.

But it's funny, and enjoyable and rich and lovely and bright. I'm ever so delighted with it so far.

When I was 15, I thought it was the single greatest thing ever written. Thank goodness I was all sorts of wrong about that.

Funny, I just spoke with a co-worker who said the same thing. Apparently, this book is magic to a 15 year old boy.

the horrific sexism makes it pretty gross by the end. Heinlein has this deep-seated belief that women exist to serve and please men.

Thusfar all the blatant misogyny has been centered around one person (I'm not terribly far into it), so I thought it was just a character trait. Hmm....
