It grips me not.
Nov. 23rd, 2007 11:14 pmNow that we have painted walls that are going to remain as they are for quite some time, I can start to put *stuff* up. I am one of these people who likes some *stuff* on the walls, but never has any stuff to put up. We had received beautiful, large, wooden wall-hanging picture frames for our wedding, but had not yet hung them up.
So we had a project. Hang the pictures on the wall. Simple, right? Oh, but you already know that this couldn't possibly be so simple.
We have plaster walls, so we decided (wisely) not to punch any holes in the wall with the standard picture hanger thingies. In plaster, they tend to take chunks out when removed, wiggled, or, well, looked at for an extended period of time (oh heck, a simple little glance will do it). We decided to go with 3M Command strips (the picture hanger kind with velcro--attach one side to the picture, the other side to the wall, velcro and voila!).
We hung the pictures. There was much leveling and measuring and deciding involved. We waited for the strips to cure before hanging the pictures, but I didn't have pictures for the picture frame yet, so we just hung up the frames. At about 3 a.m. we heard the very distinctive crash of all our picture frames falling down the stairs. No sticky. Good thing about not having the glass in, all told.
Funny, but one wall won't allow Command sticky strips. We tried cleaning it with rubbing alcohol. We tried warming the wall with a hairdryer first...and afterwards. Nay, no, nada sticky. My picture frames keep falling down. Just on one wall--the other walls are holding the strips just fine. Oh. And it's all painted with THE SAME PAINT. Seriously. Why? WHY?!
Derrick suggested Gorilla Glue. I'm almost to that point.
