I always enjoy potluck at work--generally because everyone takes a long lunch and sits around telling semi-dirty anecdotes while swilling Diet Coke from paper cups.

Unfortunately, our work tends to have assemble-a-meal potlucks where everyone is responsible for bringing a different ingredient (eg. Build your own taco). People tend to bring things that THEY like and we have a variety of different palettes to please, so we tend to end up with meals like this:

Build-your-own sub sandwiches:
Grilled ciabatta (sp?) bread with whole grains
Baby aragula mixed greens
Organic Hummus spread
Fresh picked garden tomatoes
Cheese-Wiz/processed cheese slices
Bologna
Doritos (Nacho Cheese flavor)

My contribution was the Diet Coke...which spilled upon opening.

Dessert was a package of Oreos. Woo-hoo!

You need coworkers who eat more meat. And, for that matter, more condiments. Were they using the hummus instead of mayo and mustard?

And, just explain, I'm adding you to my friends list because we like the same things about [livejournal.com profile] gloomchen. Hope that's okay. If not, just say so.

At least you had the diet coke.

Well, the hummus confused me...was it for the nacho cheese Doritos, or for the sandwiches? Unfortunately, because everyone is allowed to sign up for the element of their choosing, we get people signing up for "meat" who only want to eat bologna...or are too cheap to get some sliced turkey or something.

No problem on the friends' list--I always like "meeting" new people.

Yeah, it was pretty much a failure of edibility.

Oh well, I always have soups and such stockpiled in my desk drawers.
