In the immortal (now) words of Bob Geldof, "I don't like Mondays."

Not only was it perfectly cool in the bedroom this morning [insert required complaint about it being f-ing HOT out], but it was perfectly sunny and bright and airy and textured (yes, textured--I like my fluffy sheets). The urge to stay in bed was so strong that I contemplated staying home for half-a-second before remembering that my laptop was at work--and I'd just have to get up and run anyway.

The theme of the weekend: Missy has a headache. It doesn't interfere at the moment, but it's there. That little thing in the back of your mind that stays on the edge of consciousness at all times. Ugh.

We drove 3 1/2 hours south (west) to Derrick's 10 year class reunion. I know I'm not supposed to feel better about myself based on judging others, but dang. That reunion made both Derrick and I feel like extravagant, beautiful, successful, wise people. We also felt, at the same time, like late and early bloomers. We've had relative early "success" as far as getting decent jobs, but we're behind family-wise--70% of his classmates have kids between the ages of 8 and 10...at a 10 year reunion. One even had a 12 year old. Out of the remaining 30%, 25% had kids under those ages, and the other 5% were single with no marriage or child prospects to speak of.

So no kids for us. Two jobs. Not living (and I quote), "1,900 corn rows from my parents." (When that quote was said, there were a few voices piping up..."are those 30 inch rows?") We're feeling pretty darn smug. That kinda makes us horrible people, no? To judge yourself based on the success of others?

I need to take a shower now. Gah, it was fun enough. We then drove 3 1/2 hours BACK to the cities that night.

Sunday, after an excruciating run I decided to put my foot down. We needed an air-conditioner for the basement. On the way to an appointment with a potential wedding photographer we stopped by no fewer than 6 stores before figuring out that EVERY place in the Twin Cities was sold out. Well duh non-air-conditioned couple. If you wait til AUGUST and 102 temps to get your A/C, there aren't going to be any left. And here I thought I was toughing it out.

We settled for a fan. Fans are NOT better than A/C in the city dammit.

Met with photogs that we pretty much liked.

Went home. Watched 8-Mile with the sister, then watched Sin City again. That movie is sheer stylized entertainment. I don't mind it at all.

Read the rest of 1916 and started-n-finished Among the Hidden. I liked them both enough to continue with the respective series.

So, nothing really exciting at all. Sheesh, is this a gratuitous what-did-I-eat-for-breakfast post? God no. I promise to do something interesting soon. But it's just. Too. Hot.

Yes. Too hot to be entertaining.

Edit: One more tidbit about the class reunion. I didn't really know what to expect. I asked Derrick what it would be like. I had only ever seen class reunions in bad 80's porn movies (seriously), and I wasn't realistically expecting them to be orgy-tastic. Derrick dispelled that myth, but promised me 80's hair, nonetheless.

Within 5 minutes of arriving, he delivered on that promise. It turns out that small-town class reunions are a LOT like bad 80's porn movies. Only without the sex and stuff. I would say bummer, but considering the mix of people, that was a VERY good thing.

1916 as in the Irish Century series?

Yeah, I gave up *toughing it out* earlier this summer . . .

There's something very . . . quaint . . . in a good way . . . about the 1900 corn rows comment . . .

Yeah, the Irish Century series.

Eh. The first book wasn't so bad. Unfortunately, I don't really have the head for names/dates, so as long as they aren't a central part of the story I do okay. I managed to skim those parts a bit, but overall it wasn't bad.

You're saying they get worse?

*raises eyebrows*

Oh, and Levar Burton TOTALLY looks like he's trying to cover up his naughty bits in your icon.

Nope - was just curious. I thought you'd said you really had little or no interest in reading the series.

And that *is* the nice thing about those books, not having a head for names and dates doesn't take away from the story, and there *is* cast of characters, et cetera, in the front if you feel like looking something up.

Thank you for reassuring me that me not going to my 20th reunion was actually a good thing. It was 2 weeks ago. From what I have gotten from people for the most part it was people who NEVER left Vista or the area. Some acting as if they were still in HS.

You and Derrik are awesome. Why do you think I want my girls to grow up to be like you.

You should know by now that I'm up for reading anything and everything I can get my grubby li'l hands on.

I just don't get to some things as soon as I would like to--you know, it's sad to think that there are far more good books in the world than I will (probably) be able to read in my lifetime.

When I talked to the library director he said that they had to move over 3 million materials. 3 million.

Drat. I'm behind.

It probably would have only served to make you feel vastly superior to everyone else. :) I'm of two minds about class reunions: 1. They don't really accomplish much--those that you really wanted to stay in touch with, you did. 2. It's terribly fun to see people in their altered state. Sometimes this means that they've mellowed out from life experience (a good thing) and sometimes they've gotten fat and bald (a nasty, but good thing in some cases).

Alright, I admit it, I was being tremendously petty there--but that's what class reunions are all about.

Lets hope your daughters aren't nearly as shy as Derrick or I (well, mostly me, Derrick's pretty good about the talking-to-people thing).

Drat. We figured if Menards, Lowes, Home Depot, Target, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club and Appliance Mart were all sold out we were SOL. We didn't even CHECK Best Buy after being told at each one of those stores that NONE of their stores in the Twin Cities had any more A/C in stock.

The fan helps some though.

Well they have almost none ....

The Richfield store is the only store with stock and has only one type only

Goldstar 5050 BTU Room Air Conditioner
