Sunday I spent a good 3 hours out in the garden. That seems like not much time until you realize that I have a city plot and it's incredibly tiny--so 3 hours is a lot of gardening. I mean, this from a gal whose parents would send her out into the field on summer mornings to pick beans for half the day. So my measure of "garden time" is all relative, I suppose.

Anyway. In addition to last year's rhubarb (which was planted last year but I actually get to use this year), red raspberries,  strawberries, and a few wayward volunteer radishes, I also planted:

--4 varieties of tomatoes: Sweet 100, Early Girl, Beefsteak and Yellow Boy
--Thornless blackberries that I got from a friend's farm
--Black raspberries that I got from my grandparents' house
--2 varieties of blueberries (you need 2 varieties planted together to produce berries): Northstar and...something else.
--2 varieties of cucumbers: Picklebush and Straight Eight
--2 varieties of early watermelon: Seedless bush and some other kind...
--Basil in pots
--Parsley in pots
--Pole beans (Kentucky Blue)

I had to weed and till and transplant and make an elaborate bean rigging system in a small space using lilac twigs, garden twine and our climbing rose trellis:
